COVID-19 might have placed a few obstacles in our way, but I am delighted to be once again taking part in the Melbourne Marathon this year, running a half-marathon distance (virtually)!
This year I’m inviting you to join me in walking or running whatever distance you like, wherever you are, between 5 – 13 December, 2020!
Running in this event has become very important for me – every day I talk to people who, through no fault of their own, have managed to draw the short straw of getting a cancer that no-one has heard of, where there is often no cure. Every time I run, I am reminded of the absolute gift it is to be healthy, to be able to fill my lungs and push my feet off the ground and feel the wind in my hair! So many of my patients don’t get to experience any of this.
This year has been pretty tough in the not-for-profit space. Lots of the fundraising events we would normally run have not been possible. I know also, many people are doing it tough, financially. We so appreciate your support! This helps us to provide essential services such as support groups, forums and webinars, and printing information, as well as funding clinical trials and health professional education.
I would be so grateful for even the smallest donation. Even better, why don’t you consider joining me, in walking or running a distance that you’d enjoy – whether it be a one km gentle stroll, or perhaps something more lengthy. I can’t promise you a medal (unless you enter the actual event), but I’d love the virtual company, and by joining my team and sharing the event, who knows what we might achieve!
