Since my NET cancer diagnosis in 2015, I have participated in Run Melbourne building up to my first Half Marathon last year. I have also used this event as a fundraiser for NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia (formerly known as the Unicorn Foundation.) Due to covid 19 many running events around the country have been cancelled or postponed this year. So I found a virtual Half Marathon event to participate in called ‘run it anyway in May’. I completed this one and will continue to participate in other virtual events and challenges throughout the year.
Due to the current restrictions, my runs have been a bit shorter and just around my neighbourhood. So these events give me something to train for! I can’t wait to get out to the trails again! But who knew seeing a chalked hopscotch on the footpath would bring me so much joy in the meantime!
May 2020 I was registered to attend UTA22 – an awesome trail event! It has been postponed also. I have deferred to next year – 2021.
From those that I’ve met through NET cancer groups I see so much positivity, motivation and friendship. This keeps me running with a smile on my face. I run to celebrate what my body can achieve – I am ‘no evidence of disease’ with regular monitoring.
I know times are tough at the moment but every little bit counts. So if you are able to donate to my On the Move to raise awareness for Neuroendocrine Cancer fundraiser, I and NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia would appreciate it.
