In March 2024, I will undertake a 29km run from Whitfords to Fremantle with the goal of raising funds for Neuroendocrine cancer (NEC). This cause is close to my heart because my remarkable Dad and Best Friend received a devastating NEC diagnosis in May 2023.
Neuroendocrine cancer is characterized by the formation of “NETS” (Neuroendocrine Tumours) in neuroendocrine cells, including those that regulate normal bodily functions. My dad, John, who has graciously allowed me to share his story, received his NEC diagnosis at a late stage, with tumors appearing in both his liver and small bowel. It’s worth noting that the Neuroendocrine Foundation relies on community fundraising efforts because there is currently limited government funding available to support research, find a cure, or provide resources to patients.
Despite his diagnosis, my dad has remained resilient in his battle against cancer. However, due to the limited understanding, funding, and research on NEC, his journey has often felt perplexing and lacking in information about what to expect.
Through this run, I aim to raise awareness about this disease and generate funds to ensure that future patients have access to more resources and information to support their own battles. I kindly request any donation (tax deductible in AUS) you can provide to help combat NEC and to show my dad that his journey has made a difference in the lives of others.
