Since my NET cancer diagnosis in 2015, I have participated in Run Melbourne building up to my first Half Marathon last year. I have also used this event as a fundraiser for NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia (formerly known as the Unicorn Foundation.) As many running events around the country have been cancelled or postponed, I found a virtual Half Marathon event to participate in called ‘run it anyway in May’ but will also participate in other virtual events throughout the year.
Due to the current restrictions, my runs have been a bit shorter and just around my neighbourhood. So this event will give me something to train for! I’m not getting out to the trails at the moment. But who knew seeing a chalked hopscotch on the footpath would bring me so much joy! This May I was registered to attend UTA22 – an awesome trail event! It has been postponed also. I have deferred to next year. Without running events to turn up to and running buddies to meet up with this will keep me motivated!
From those that I’ve met through NET cancer groups I see so much positivity, motivation and friendship. This keeps me running with a smile on my face. I run to celebrate what my body can achieve – I am ‘no evidence of disease’ with regular monitoring.
I know times are tough at the moment but every little bit counts. So if you are able to donate to my On the Move to raise awareness for Neuroendocrine Cancer fundraiser and the number of virtual and actual events, I and NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia would appreciate it.
