My name is Kathryn and I have recently started volunteering with The Unicorn Foundation. I met Kate Wakelin five years ago when our daughters became close friends through Australian Girls’ Choir. Along with our other friend Lisa-Marie, we have made a habit of walking and chatting on Tuesday mornings which has become weekly mental therapy for the three of us! Kate and I also enjoy a bit of running when we have the time and we have enjoyed many events together, including a couple of half marathons. Kate’s passion for The Unicorn Foundation is rather addictive and when she said they were needing some volunteers, Lisa-Marie and I were happy to put up our hands!
I work as a midwife doing permanent night shifts at a hospital in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. I like to keep busy, so along with the normal running around after my three children, I am also a Cub Scout Leader and seem to keep falling into team management roles for my youngest son’s tennis team. I can also regularly be found either front of house or back stage at my daughter’s productions.
I am very excited to be getting involved with The Unicorn Foundation. The support they provide cancer patients, their friends and families and healthcare workers is invaluable. Like most of the world, my family has been touched by cancer and I look forward to supporting an organisation that does such amazing work.
