NECA Joins Cancer Australia’s Low Survival Cancers Mission Roundtable

On 27 October 2026, NECA attended the Low Survival Cancers Mission Roundtable at Old Parliament House, hosted by Cancer Australia. It was a collaborative and thought-provoking day that brought together a diverse group of clinicians, people with lived experience, advocacy representatives, researchers and government to help shape the Mission’s priorities and future investment.

Discussions focused on reframing how we think about low survival cancers. Rather than looking only at cancer type, the group considered poor outcomes, inequity and unmet needs, and where research investment could make the greatest difference.

There was broad agreement that priority should go to research addressing gaps across prevention, early detection, diagnosis, disease biology, stage at diagnosis, treatment, survivorship and care, with a focus on Priority Populations. This would include tumour-agnostic, genomic and biology-based approaches.

With more research funding becoming available, it is exciting to look to the future of cancer research in Australia. One thing is certain: NECA will be strongly advocating for research that includes neuroendocrine cancers.

Thank you to Cancer Australia for the invitation and for your ongoing inclusion of NECA.

Outside Old Parliament House: the Lung Cancer mobile clinic

Parked outside was the Heart of Australia mobile clinic. Heart of Australia has partnered with the Australian Government to co-deliver the new National Lung Cancer Screening Program, providing mobile screening services to rural and remote communities nationwide. The vehicle houses three consultation rooms, state-of-the-art diagnostic tools and a CT scanner. It is an amazing service that brings care to communities that have long lacked access to it.
