Rob Hammond’s Racing for a Cure fundraiser was held on the evening of Saturday 24 October, marking the 5th year of this event. We are so grateful for Rob’s dedication and perseverance in continuing to raise funds for NETs and assist in enabling the NET Nurse support.
Rob has now raised over $200,000 to date. This year’s target was $30,000, with more than $16,000 raised on the night and a further $11,000 pledged. Rob is on track to reach his goal, which would bring his total fundraising to $230,000.
This year’s event was held at Launceston Golf Club, and we enjoyed a full room, great food, and fun, lively auctions. Many thanks to everyone who pitched in to secure prizes for the evening, including Board Member Philippa Morgan, Nurse Isobel, and Kim and Greg Burgess for selling raffle tickets prior to the evening. All of this community spirit helps the evening come together, run smoothly and be so successful.
We also thank the following MPs for showing up to support the evening: Janie Finlay MP, for her unwavering support over many years, Prof George Razay MP and Jess Teesdale MP. Awareness of NETs among MPs in Tasmania is growing year on year, and it was great to see such a turnout on the evening. Janie also re-confirmed Labor’s pledge to fund a full-time NET Nurse if Labor wins the next election.
We’d like to thank a couple of our very special foundation sponsors. The Flinders Island community has been incredibly generous, donating prizes and bidding on them to raise further funds for NETs. A special thank you to the Tasmanian Walking Company, who generously donate a walk for two each year. This year they outdid themselves with a five-day Uluru-Kata Tjuta signature walk.
