The annual Australian Comprehensive Cancer Network (ACCN) Innovations Showcase was held at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne this year. There were several hundred who attended in person and on line – NECA was represented by Meredith Cummins attending in person. The showcase was opened by Hon Rebecca White MP (Assistant Health Minister) followed by Prof Dorothy Keefe CEO Cancer Australia delivering the vision and growth of ACCN and with this growth supporting the Australian Cancer Plan.
During the day the event highlighted examples of networked cancer care and explored how the ACCN can facilitate comprehensive cancer care as close to home as safely possible for all Australians.
The themes of the ACCN Innovations Showcase were:
- ACCN member initiatives to improve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cancer outcomes through collaboration and co-design.
- Improving equity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- Lift, Shift and Tailor: highlighting established initiatives and good practice that showcase networking and collaboration in cancer care.
- Collaboration opportunities: exploring how the ACCN can be leveraged to enhance implementation opportunities.
In the afternoon it was wonderful to hear Prof Michael Michael presenting the Gippsland Regional Integrated Cancer Service (GRIC) program (Peter MacCallum and Gippsland) which is providing equitable care for people with Neuroendocrine Cancer in Gippsland – a project that NECA has been involved in.
