Bridge to Brisbane 2026

A Huge Thank You to Steve Townsend: Bridge to Brisbane 2026

This past weekend, Steve Townsend laced up his shoes and took on the Transurban Bridge to Brisbane 10km, crossing the finish line in a fantastic time of 44:42, finishing 1,713th overall out of 27,923 runners, putting him in the top 6% of the entire field. That’s an impressive pace for a community fun run, and we couldn’t be prouder to have Steve running in NECA’s corner, especially as this marks his fifth year taking on Bridge to Brisbane on our behalf since 2021.

Steve’s connection to our cause runs deeper than most. His mum, Therese, is a valued member of NECA’s Consumer Advisory Group and lives with a neuroendocrine cancer diagnosis herself. Like his mum, Steve also lives with MEN-1, a genetic subtype of neuroendocrine cancer, making his connection to NECA both personal and familial. The Townsend family has been a wonderful and consistent supporter of our work, and Steve’s ongoing commitment to Bridge to Brisbane as a fundraiser for NECA is a beautiful extension of that support.

Fun runs like this take real commitment, and doing it in support of a cause close to your heart makes every step count for something bigger. Steve, on behalf of everyone at NECA, thank you. Your effort helps fund vital support, education and research for people affected by neuroendocrine cancer, and it means the world to families like your own.

Running a Local Fun Run? Choose NECA as Your Charity

Steve is just one of many incredible supporters who choose to make their local fun runs, marathons and community events count by fundraising for NECA. Whether you’re tackling a 5km, a half marathon, or something bigger, you can make it count for people living with neuroendocrine cancer.

Many community fun runs, including Bridge to Brisbane, use Grassrootz for event registration, and it only takes a moment at sign up to nominate your charity of choice. Next time you register for a local event, simply select NECA (Neuroendocrine Cancer Australia) as your charity partner and your fundraising will go directly toward supporting patients, families and research.

Thank you, Steve, and thank you to everyone who runs, walks and fundraises for NECA. Every kilometre helps.

Steve would like to thank everyone who donated – it’s not too late to support Steve – click here if you’d like to leave a message and donate. If you’re seeing this too late, don’t stress – Steve will be back again fundraising and running next year!
