Rare Cancer Day, 26 June 2026

On Thursday 25 June 2026 NECA attended the Rare Cancers Event at Parliament House in Canberra. It was great to come together with other Patient Groups, patients with rare cancers and members of Parliament. Many cancers are no longer rare and can be classified as less common – this was acknowledged by Minister Butler, Senator Ruston and Senator Askew in their addresses to the audience.

All who attended had the same vison and mission,  to support all cancer patients to have equitable access to diagnostics and treatments. So many patients do not have access to the treatments they need and are financially burdened  – we need to ensure that patients are not disadvantaged by the fact that they do not have a more common cancer and can receive affordable treatment in Australia. Thank you to Rare Cancer’s Australia for organising this event to mark Rare Cancer Day on 26 June 2026
