Order of Australia Recipients

  • June 13, 2023

A HUGE congratulations to our co-founder, Simone Leyden and board member Professor Rodney Hicks, who were appointed with the prestigious title of Member (AM) of the Order of Australia (general division).

Simone was awarded for her contributions to health communities, namely neuroendocrine cancer and co-founding the organisation in 2009.

Rodney received the honour for his service to nuclear medicine through a range of international and national roles. Rodney was instrumental in supporting our co-founders in launching NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia.

The tireless efforts from Simone have encompassed numerous initiatives, from establishing a robust support network and community for neuroendocrine cancer patients to spearheading the creation of the first NET Nurse telephone support service. She has actively advocated for changes in the healthcare system, supported vital NET research, and served as a strong voice for patients needing advocacy when their voices wavered. In 2022 Simone launched the five-year National Action Plan and looks forward to seeing it through to fruition.

Thank you Simone and Rodney, we are so thrilled you have both been recognised for your vast contributions to neuroendocrine cancer. The lives you have improved and your impact on raising awareness of NETs throughout Australia are immeasurable.

Once again, a HUGE congratulations to Simone and Rodney on this well-deserved honour.
