Parliament House representation for Federal Budget briefings

  • March 27, 2025

NECA attends the Treasurer’s Speech at Parliament House and then Medicines Australia Patient Organisation Brief at the Press Club on Wednesday 26 March 2025. The following morning NECA attended AIPS Health Post Budget Brief Breakfast.

Meredith Cummins, representing NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia (NECA), attended on Wednesday 26 March 2025 the Treasurers Speech at Parliament House and then Medicines Australia hosted a Patient Organisation Brief at the National Press Club. This unpacked the Federal Budget and what this means for medicines access, affordability, and policy reform. CEO Liz De Somer led discussions on the broader implications for the pharmaceutical sector, while Dr. Andrew Wilson, Chair of the Implementation Advisory Group, provided insights into the HTA recommendations. There was also a presentation about the current political climate. This event was an important opportunity for NECA to stay informed and advocate for equitable access to life-changing medicines for NET patients.

NECA also attended the Australian Institute of Policy and Science (AIPS) annual Post Budget Health Briefing breakfast on Thursday, 27th March 2025, at the Hotel Realm in Canberra. The event featured The Honourable Mark Butler, Minister for Health and Aged Care and Hon Anika Wells, Minister for Aged Care and Sport, providing critical stakeholders in the health sector an opportunity to engage directly with the Minister regarding the implications of the recent federal budget on health policies and initiatives. This traditional event facilitates direct dialogue between policymakers and health professionals to discuss and analyse budgetary impacts on the health sector. By being in the room, it reinforced NECA’s commitment to advocating for better health outcomes, ensuring NET patients are not overlooked in national health policy discussions.
