Equitable access for all NET patients

  • July 11, 2023

Senator, Wendy Askew has moved a motion to conduct a Senate Inquiry regarding Equitable Access to diagnosis and treatment for individuals with rare and less common cancers, including neuroendocrine cancer.

To support this landmark inquiry we are now calling on our NETs community to help in one of two ways:

  1. Either complete and send a personal letter to the Senate Community Affairs References Committee (template included below)
  2. OR fill out your details in the form below to be included in a joint submission that NECA will create on behalf of our NETs community.

Submissions close on the 31st of August 2023, so don’t delay.

The Terms of Reference for the inquiry are:

Equitable access to diagnosis and treatment for individuals with rare and less common cancers, including neuroendocrine cancer, with particular reference to:

a. barriers to screening and diagnosis, including the impact of factors such as:

i. geographic location,
ii. cost,
iii. cultural and language barriers,
iv. type of cancer, and
v. availability of treating practitioners;

b. barriers to accessing appropriate treatment;

c. the adequacy of support services after diagnosis;

d. the adequacy of Commonwealth funding for research into rare, less common, and neuroendocrine cancer; and

e. any other related matters.

For more information regarding the inquiry, you can read Senator Wendy Askew’s full press release HERE.

Help us achieve equitable access for all NET patients.

Sending a personal letter in support of the inquiry is simple:

  1. Download the template for the Senate Inquiry via the button below.
  2. Personalise the letter with your own personal NETs story. How has your life been impacted, what barriers have you experienced first hand?
  3.  Urge the government to make lasting changes that will improve the lives of NET patients, their families and carers around Australia and upload your letter before the 31st of August 2023.

Full instructions can be viewed HERE

Register your details for joint submission.

If you would like to show your support, but would prefer to form part of our joint submission, please complete the form below. If you would like any of your responses to the Terms of Reference (some or all of them) to be included in the NECA submission please include these in the notes section prior to the 17th of August.

All registrations received will be included within our joint submission, which we will submit before the 31st of August 2023.
