World Cancer Day 2023

World Cancer Day: a leading international awareness day to “Close the Care Gap”

World Cancer Day held on 4 February every year is the global initiative led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC).

Cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide. Together, we can change that.

While we live in a time of awe-inspiring advancements in cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment, many of us who seek cancer care hit barriers at every turn.

So this year’s World Cancer Day’s theme, “Close the Care Gap” continues from 2022, is all about celebrating progress in its many forms that enable more people to seek and receive the care they need and deserve, in addition to highlighting current gaps in care.

Here at NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia we are helping “Close the Care Gap” with our National Action Plan which has been developed in collaboration with key stakeholders, patients, the consumer advisory group, Centres of Excellence and leading Healthcare Specialists right across Australia to develop a clear strategy that we will present to the government for better neuroendocrine cancer education, earlier diagnosis, treatment and support.

How you can help us “Close the Care Gap”

  • Advocate for Us by contacting your local Member of Parliament and tell them why you believe they need to do more for neuroendocrine cancer patients. You can do this by email, mail, phone – or all three! We’ve created some templates to help get you started.
  • Start a Fundraiser: Fundraising is a crucial part of NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia as we raise funds for research grants, patient support groups and our NET Nurse Hotline. You can create your own here.
  • Volunteer: Volunteers can play a vital role and have a significant positive impact on what we do at NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia. Whether you are helping with patient support groups, events or organising a fundraiser, many activities that we do would not be possible without supporters volunteering their time. If you would like to volunteer your time and skills please register your interest here.
  • Donate to NECA or leave a gift in will: One of the most impactful ways you can support NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia is by donating or pledging a gift in your will with Gathered Here’s FREE online will tool kit. It won’t cost anything during your lifetime, but it will help ensure NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia continues to support NET Cancer Patients Australia wide.

Join us on 4 February and help close the NET cancer care gap to drive earlier diagnosis and equity in cancer care for NET patients.

Feel free to share our posts online to your community along with your own experience and what #ClosingTheCareGap means to you.
