The Australian Comprehensive Cancer Network (ACCN) Regional, Rural and Remote Networked Comprehensive Cancer Care Workshop was held at Dubbo Zoo on Tuesday 17 March 2026. This was its inaugural meeting and attracted over 80 attendees from very diverse groups across NSW.
This included Cancer Australia, NSW Cancer Institute, ICON, GenesisCare, people with lived experience of cancer, Medical Oncology, Pharmacy, Clinical Trials, Radiation Therapists, Nurses, Haematologists, McGrath Cancer Care Nurses and NECA.
It was an excellent day with presentations on strengthening culturally safe cancer care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through networked partnerships, lived experiences in a regional setting, primary care perspectives, partnership models, private sector perspectives, and local insights and experiences.
The afternoon session included table discussions on what the barriers and enablers are to improving networked cancer care, what opportunities exist to fast-track improved networked cancer care (regional, rural and remote), how we can ensure culturally safe care, and what success looks like for networked comprehensive cancer care, as well as how we will know we are on the right track.
The results of the table discussions will form the basis for future workshops, with the next scheduled online on 30 April 2026.
