About Us

Together for every Australian affected by neuroendocrine cancer.

NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia (NECA) was founded in 2009 by John and Simone Leyden, after their sister Kate was diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer. Determined that no one else should face the same lack of information, understanding, and support, they created what was then known as the Unicorn Foundation – the first Australian charity dedicated solely to neuroendocrine cancer.

Today, NECA is led by CEO Meredith Cummins and supported by a passionate team of Neuroendocrine Cancer specialists, clinicians, and advocates, all committed to improving outcomes and quality of life for every person affected by this frequently misunderstood, complex cancer.

Over more than a decade, NECA has become Australia’s leading not-for-profit organisation providing education, support, and advocacy for neuroendocrine cancer. We work hand in hand with patients, carers, clinicians, researchers, and government to:

  • Provide expert support through our Neuroendocrine Cancer Nurse team and Specialist Services
  • Deliver education and awareness programs to improve diagnosis and treatment
  • Advocate for better access to care, funding, and research nationwide
  • Build a connected and informed Neuroendocrine Cancer community across Australia
  • Actively collaborate with our international counterparts

Our mission remains clear: to ensure every person living with neuroendocrine cancer receives timely diagnosis, world-class care, and unwavering support – no matter where they live.

The 5 Pillars

NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia is the only non-for-profit medical charity providing support to Australians living with neuroendocrine cancers.

We are governed by the following five pillars:

These pillars have been created to give neuroendocrine cancer patients, their families and friends, a voice in the community and access to the care and treatment that they deserve.
