NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia is dedicated to improving patient outcomes through promoting and supporting unique Australian Neuroendocrine Cancer Research and participating in worthy research projects.

Prof Nick Pavlakis

Prof Nick Pavlakis is a Senior Staff Specialist in the Department of Medical Oncology at Royal North Shore Hospital. He has more than 25 years’ experience in the treatment and research of NETs, gastrointestinal cancers and thoracic cancers. Nick is the lead of the Sydney ENETs centre of excellence based at Royal North Shore Hospital, accredited since 2019, and a past president of COSA. Nick led the CONTROL NETs trial, has published numerous research articles, and given international presentations in NENs.

Prof Michael Michael

Prof Michael is a Gastrointestinal (GI) and Neuroendocrine (NEN) Medical Oncologist at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre (PMCC); Clinical/Trial Lead for the Upper Gastrointestinal Medical Oncology Service; Co-Chair of the PMCC European Neuroendocrine Tumour Society (ENETs) accredited NET Centre of Excellence; and Professorial Fellow at The University of Melbourne Michael’s research represents a very close collaboration with institutional and outside medical specialists, and laboratory scientists in GI/NET oncology with regards to the clinical trial design and coordination of parallel translational studies to achieve optimisation of patient treatment. Dr Piyush Grover

Doctor Piyush Grover (B.Pharm (Hons), MBBS (Hons1), FRACP) is a medical oncologist at Fiona Stanley Hospital, Perth, Western Australia, and a PhD candidate at the University of Western Australia. He is a clinician-researcher with interests in neuroendocrine tumours, upper gastrointestinal cancers, and melanoma. Dr Grover is undertaking a clinical PhD in Immuno-Oncology after completing a clinical and research fellowship at the Melanoma Institute Australia. A/Prof David Wyld

A/Prof David Wyld’s research interests have focused particularly on gastrointestinal cancers (with a specific focus on pancreatic cancer, colorectal cancer and neuroendocrine tumours (NETs)), gynaecologic malignancies and qualitative patient focused research. His current major research focuses are in the areas of NETS, Pancreatic Cancer, the supportive care needs of patients with cancer and health systems research. Dr David Chan

David is a medical oncologist with a subspecialty interest in NETs. His PhD on PET scans as biomarkers in NENs was awarded in 2020, and he has been continuously supported by research funding since. He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles, more than 50 concerning NETs, and received more than $5 million AUD in peer-reviewed funding as a chief investigator. He serves as the chair of the NET group of the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia (2019-) and co-leads the NET centre of excellence based at Royal North Shore Hospital, Australia.

Gabrielle brings over 30 years of experience in cancer care as a Nuclear Medicine Physician and Medical Oncologist, with a dedicated focus on Neuroendocrine Tumours. Based at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Adelaide, she continues to lead the expansion of precision oncology (Theranostics) services for South Australian and Northern Territory patients. Prof Tim Price

Professor Tim Price is currently Head of Clinical Oncology Research at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woodville. He is also the Chair of the SA Comprehensive Cancer Network Clinical Trials Program committee. He is Chair of the current Australian Cancer Council NHMRC Colorectal Guidelines committee. He is also a member of the COSA NET group and the South Australian state PRRT service. He has been involved in several NET research programs via the AGITG and COMMNETS. In addition, Prof Price is an associate editor for the British Journal of Cancer and ESMO Gastrointestinal Oncology.

Dr John Leyden

Dr John Leyden is the co-founder NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia and a specialist anaesthetist with clinical interests in cardiothoracic surgery, bariatric surgery and neuroendocrine cancers currently in practice at Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney and in private practice. After obtaining his medical degree at Monash University he went on to specialise in anaesthesia, completing a cardiothoracic anaesthesia fellowship at the University of Toronto (Canada) and a Masters of Public Health and Masters of Medical Management at the University of New South Wales.
