Kathryn’s Reception Dress

I created a replica of the iconic 1970s Virginia Slims dress.

By THERESE TOWNSEND

Kathryn, our daughter, wanted a wedding reception dress in which she could have fun! She has long loved vintage fashion and her ceremony dress was a genuine 1959 cinched-waist stunner. Alas, it wasn’t conducive to eating … or dancing …. or breathing …. I created her unconstrained reception gown from a 1970s Vogue pattern for an iconic ’70s dress. The fabric is 95% silk, 5% lycra and the bodice is fully lined and cut on the cross. The skirt is pleated, rather than gathered. Glamorous tails billowed on the lively dance floor. My proud creation proved fit-for-purpose!
