CNSA Annual National Congress 2023
The 25th Cancer Nurses Society of Australia’s (CNSA) Annual Congress was held at the Adelaide Convention Centre June 14th – 16th 2023.
The conference theme was ‘Equity in Cancer Care’ – which saw nurses from across Australia meeting to explore how to challenge the status quo and explore strategies for improving equity of cancer care.
The fantastic program attracted an attendance of almost 600 cancer nurses which ensured an excited, energetic, and enthusiastic atmosphere of networking and ideas sharing for all.
The NECA stand in the Exhibition Hall was a hub of activity with great interest across all of the resources and support NECA provides including our online education modules, virtual in-service sessions, and ‘Living with NETs’ program.
We look forward to providing many more in-services across Australia to new and renewed links with cancer nurse teams.
The NECA nurse team had an abstract accepted for the conference poster presentation ‘Living with Neuroendocrine Cancer: Online Patient Education Program’ which was a wonderful opportunity to promote national awareness of and information about our online program for people living with NETs to a broader national cancer nurse audience.
The many wonderful Congress presentations and plenary sessions were led by such diverse speakers such as Dr Ranjana Srivastava OAM and Professor Sabe Sabesan on differing aspects of Equity in Cancer Care, to presentations and panel sessions on Inequity, Ageing and Cancer, and countless concurrent streams such as AYA and LGBTQI+, Telehealth and Virtual Models of Care, to the Geography of cancer care provision, to name a few.
This year’s Congress also saw the inaugural ‘Not-for-Profit Organisations Meeting’. Attended by many key organisations including NECA, Lymphoma Australia, Rare Cancers Australia, McGrath Foundation, and Cancer Council representatives, and facilitated by our NECA CEO Meredith Cummins, the open discussion enabled sharing of ideas to foster engagement of a wider national cancer nurse population and even further collaboration amongst our groups for our patients and families.
