Italian rapper Federico Lucia, better known as Fedez shared his Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumour diagnosis with the world.
At 32 years old Fedez has advised he has undergone successful surgery to have the tumour removed – and early diagnosis was key. He says we have “more chance if neuronendocrine tumor discovered sooner”.
Fedez has shared this news with his global social media base of approximately 21 million. Comprising 1.6 million Instagram followers, 2.8 million Twitter followers, 2.5 million Facebook followers and 2.05 million YouTube subscribers. Fedez’s wife Chiara Ferragni (blogger, businesswoman, fashion designer, and model) also shared Fedez’s diagnosis with her social media, including 26.6m Instagram followers.
We are grateful to Fedez and the late Steve Jobs, Aretha Franklin and Irrfan Khan who share their diagnosis in an effort to raise awareness of NETs globally. We know that when sharing a personal experience, and explaining symptoms, it starts the conversation, raising awareness and educating the community at the same time. This saves more lives by driving earlier diagnosis.
Key ask number 4 of the Australian National Action Plan – Preventing Australians from slipping through the NET 2022 – 2027, asks the Australian government to fund an on-going awareness campaign to reach all Australians, including healthcare professionals to drive earlier diagnosis and save lives.
