Meredith Cummins, Dana Hart and Kahlia Wolsley attended the Australasian Association of Nuclear Medicine Specialists (AANMS) Theranostics Course 24th and 25th August at W Brisbane Hotel. Kahlia was fortunate enough to receive a Travel Grant to assist with costs associated with attending the course as well as Dana receiving funding to go towards her registration.
The two days consisted of presentations, case studies, research outcomes and panel discussions demonstrating Multidisciplinary Team Management (MDM).
The sessions providing an overview on contemporary Theranostics practices including the rapidly expanding evidence-base supporting PET imaging and radionuclide therapy (including 177Lu-PSMA and 177Lu-DOTATATE) for the personalised treatment of neuroendocrine tumours, prostate cancer and advanced thyroid cancer in a multidisciplinary setting.
The NECA staff enjoyed all the presentation, although in particular the sessions – NETs clinical and imaging, NETs therapy and the highlight being NECA nurse session. The NECA nurse session involved amazing presentations on Carcinoid Heart Disease by Dr Lorcan Ruane, Carcinoid Syndrome/Crisis Management by Dr Nattakorn Dhiantravan, Case Study by Stephania Lindores, a round table discussion with the above presenters and to conclude Meredith Cummins provided a presentation on NECA and current statistics as well as an update on Clinical Trials.
Overall, it was an amazing weekend of learning, presenting and collaborating and the nurses at NECA are ever grateful for the generous donations and support to attend and be present at such a wonderful course.
