Melbourne NET Forum 2024

On Thursday 28th November 2024, NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia (NECA) facilitated the Melbourne NET Patient Forum at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. We had a great turn out with over 30 patients, family, friends and carers attending the event. The forum went for two hours, and it was a full evening with amazing presenters, questions and discussions.   The agenda included a diverse range of topics including:

  • Professor Michael Michael, Medical Oncologist at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre gave an overview of NETS, an update on Medical Oncology & Clinical trials.
  • Associate Professor Grace Kong is a Nuclear Medicine Physician at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre gave an overview of what Peptide Receptor Radionuclide Therapy is, then an update on Nuclear Medicine & Clinical Trials.
  • Associate Professor Cherie Chiang, Endocrinologist & Chemical Pathologist, provided an informative overview on guideline updates of symptoms and risk factors for carcinoid crisis in surgery / procedures and the development of spot urine 5HIAA which included food restrictions & timeframes for the test.
  • Dr Erin Laing is a NET Specialist Dietitian who works at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre who gave an insightful overview on nutrition and current research & guidelines available.
  • Kate Wakelin, NET Clinical Nurse Consultant at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre provided an overview on the NET Nurse Clinic at Peter Mac.
  • Meredith Cummins, CEO of NECA, then provided an insightful update on NECA and facilitated Q & A time, which included some great discussions.
