Thank you from the Rob MacGregor Research Fund

2015 The Rob MacGregor Research Fund

More than 400 family and friends attended a trivia night at the Castle Hill RSL, Sydney for the second annual fundraiser for the Rob MacGregor Research Fund.

This research fund, honouring the life of Rob MacGregor who had his life cut short by a pancreatic neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC) in May 2014 is the initiative of his supportive and loving family – Carolyn (mum), Anthony (dad) and sisters – Alison Mackey and Christine Rutledge. Despite the tragedy of losing a beloved son and brother, they have been committed to fundraising and improving awareness of NEC with the support of the Unicorn Foundation. The Rob MacGregor Research fund is unique because 100% of monies raised will be directed to Australian research and projects related to the most aggressive type grade of neuroendocrine cancers – NEC. Only in it’s second year, already $30,000 has been given to support a feasibility study  for – “A Randomised Phase II Study Of NAB-Paclitaxel In Combination With Carboplatin As First Line Treatment Of Gastrointestinal Neuroendocrine Carcinomas (NABNEC)” lead by Dr Mustafa Khasraw (RNSH).
The Unicorn Foundation is very proud to be working with Rob MacGregor Research Fund and is overwhelmed by the community support for this and the amazing work performed by Carolyn, Tony, Alison, Christine and their families who this year raised an incredible $45,000. Well done and thank you.

From the MacGregor Family:

"THANK YOU…. from our family and The Unicorn Foundation, to our amazing sponsors The Castle Hill RSL (great venue and staff), Rydges Hotels and Resorts, QT Hotels, Event Cinemas, The Good Guys Castle Hill, Telstra Store Macquarie Centre, Harvey Norman Castle Hill, Sony, Waterfront, Universal, Diageo, and David&Clare Oliver Photography.
A HUGE thank you to our guests….it looked like you had a fun night (awkward dancing, great singing) and for your generosity in bidding on auctions and buying raffle tix.
Our amazing host, Martin Van Eyk and his wife Gina, for their preparation and helping with the fun and entertaining delivery of the evening (and scoring 500 sheets for the evening!!).  Also to our helpers Charlotte, Maria and Steve and young Mariah, Max and Tom.  Thanks to our amazing auctioneer Ash, who helped raise $12,600 alone from the live auctions
Thanks to our family for their hard work and for Luke's incredible connections who donated so generously.  It looks like we have exceed our target of $40,000, with our tally so far around $45,000!!  Final donation to The Unicorn Foundation research project to be confirmed in the coming days as silent auction funds come in.
We look forward to seeing you all next year! "
