New Zealand Patient Day and ICCN

Our CEO Simone and NET Nurse Kate recently travelled to Auckland as guests of Unicorn Foundation NZ to attend two important events – Unicorn Foundation NZ Patient Day and International Conference on Cancer Nursing (ICCN). Simone and Kate gave fanstastic presentations at both these events which were very well attended.

Kate gave a presentation on survivorship in NETs, care plans and living beyond NETs and Simone spoke about International Research and collaborations in NET Cancer.

"The landscape is changing thanks to patients, advocates and specialists, as well as medical societies welcoming our voice and opinion in research priorities" Simone reported.

Following on from the Patient Day was the International Conference on Cancer Nursing (ICCN). Simone discussed the global perspective on the unmet needs of NET Cancer patients and how further awareness and research is urgently needed to improve early diagnosis and expand access globally to all available personalised treatment options.

Kate presented to over 100 Nurses at the preconference Neuroendocrine Nurses workshop leading into ICCN about "Survivorship Care planning in NETs". This important work in collaboration with Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute Survivorship Centre discussed the need for treatment plans which focus on symptom control, financial concerns, emotional support and follow up care.

Kate went on to present two instructional workshops in collaboration with Avril Hull titled "Sole Specialist Cancer Nurses; Building Essential Skills, Navigating New Challenges" and "Survivorship care of Neuroendocrine Tumour (NET) patients, from a speciaslised nursing perspective." Amazing educational opportunites for all who attended.
