Over 1,000 Nurses Now Enrolled in NECA’s Free Education Modules
NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia (NECA) is proud to share a major milestone: more than 4,782 healthcare professionals have enrolled in our free, CPD-certified education modules since their launch in 2021 including over 1,000 nurses.
This achievement reflects a growing movement toward better awareness, enabling earlier diagnosis, improved outcomes and more personalised care for people living with neuroendocrine cancer (NETs).
Why this matters
Neuroendocrine cancer is often complex and difficult to diagnose. By equipping healthcare professionals with accessible, evidence-based education, these modules are helping to improve care at every stage of the patient journey.
For GPs, this means greater awareness, potential for earlier detection, and better alignment with the Optimal Care Pathway for NETs.
For nurses, it means more individualised, patient-centred care, from recognising subtle symptoms, to supporting long-term treatment journeys, managing side effects, and providing informed, compassionate guidance to patients and their families.
A message from our CEO
NECA CEO, Meredith Cummins, who has more than 40 years’ experience as an oncology nurse, said:
“As an oncology nurse, I’ve seen firsthand the difference that knowledge makes, not just in clinical outcomes, but in how supported and understood a patient feels.
Reaching over 1,000 oncology nurses through these modules is incredibly meaningful. It is working towards more patients across Australia can receive care from professionals who truly understand the complexities of neuroendocrine cancer. However, the current workforce of cancer nurses in Australia is 8,258 so we need to keep promoting this education to ensure our patients can receive optimal care.
Education empowers clinicians, but it also empowers patients, and that’s where real change happens.”
