Thank you – “Ride as One 2017 – Team Fathers”

In early May, motivated by his Dad's NET's diagnosis two years ago, Gavin Fathers and his Ride as One Team mates rode as one and completed an incredible week, riding almost 1,000km from Melbourne to South Australia to raise funds and awarness for the Unicorn Foundation and the Leukaemia Foundation.  Gavin and his team have raised over $4,000 for the Unicorn Foundation!

Here are a few words from Gavin about thier amazing achievement…

There were lots of laughs, fun days, some tough days and trying conditions, but we "Rode as One" making sure evereyone made it to the finish line in one piece to celebrate a massive achievement.  It has been a humbling yet rewarding experience.

I have lots of great memories from the week but my highlights were:

1. Day 2:  Lorne – Warrnambool:  a testting 210km day with more than 2,000km of climbing starting with spectacular views along the Great Ocean Road coastline in Lorne, then beautiful climbs and descents through the forests and Lavers Hill where I led our group to lunch with gold medalist Amy Cure.  After lunch it was a stunning afternoon ride past the Twelve Apostles, finishing in Warrnambool nine plus hours later with a tired but determined group of riders to a huge welcome by the support crew and fellow riders.

2.  The countless chase back to help others join back up to the main group….  with and without assistance drafting on the back of the support car, great fun!

3. A personal cheer squad by the students of Longhorn Creek School who even made signs with my name on it, led by our friends kids Charli and Josh.  An awesome suprise.

Thank you Gavin and all the Ride as One 2017 team members for your hard work and dedication.  We are so proud of you all !!
