On Friday 24 October, the Flinders Island community once again rallied behind Rob Hammond and Racing for a Cure for its fourth consecutive year, delivering another outstanding night of fundraising, awareness, and community spirit in support of NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia (NECA).
Rob Hammond worked tirelessly to bring the evening to life—personally sponsoring all eight races, securing prizes and making himself available for media interviews to raise awareness of neuroendocrine cancer (NETs). With a goal to raise $40,000 this year, Rob has already achieved an incredible $20,000, with more funds expected as the event is expanded this year to include Racing for a Cure Hobart on Melbourne Cup Day. Rob is well on the way to reaching his goal of raising over $200,000 for NECA.Â
We extend our deepest gratitude to Rob for his dedication to fundraising for NET patients Australia wide.Â
We also extend sincere thanks to Matt Cocker, whose efforts in securing prizes added enormous value to the evening’s success, and to the Flinders Island community, whose spirit and generosity created a truly memorable night with over 130 attendees in the room showing their support. Thank you to all of the NET community who helped secure prizes for both live and silent auctions.Â
NECA CEO Meredith Cummins, NET Nurse Isobel Gower, and Fundraising & Partnerships Manager Adie Williams were all in attendance to support Rob and lend hand on the evening.Â
The evening featured a lively mix of live and silent auctions, along with a popular wine wall, all contributing to the fundraising effort. The racing highlight of the night was the Flinders Island Cup 2025, won by Sh’bourne Midnight. Congratulations to trainer Shaun Nicols and jockey Anthony Darmanin.
