Adelaide NET Forum Recap

On Thursday 15 June 2023, NECA facilitated the first NET Forum of the year at the South Australia Health & Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) in Adelaide. This was the first time that NECA has been back in Adelaide since 2019 and it was so lovely to be back seeing so many familiar faces and meeting some new ones.

We had a really wonderful turnout with over 40 attendees which included patients, family, carers, and health professionals. The program had a wealth and diversity of expert presenters including:

  • Mr Chady Barkil, Director of MITRU (Molecular Imaging and Therapy research Unit) at SAHMRI who spoke about Translational Research and the work being done at MITRU.
  • Prof Tim Price, Medical Oncologist and Clinical Director, gave an overview of The Bragg Comprehensive Cancer Centre and the advantaged of Comprehensive Cancer services.
  • Dr Tabitha Healey, who is a Medical Oncologist who now in works in Life Coaching. She provided insight and information on grief, change and dealing with life’s challenges – giving positive inputs to our lives.
  • Dr Marni Nenke, Endocrinologist and Nuclear Medicine Therapy Fellow at QEH. Her presentation provided information about familial NETs, genetic testing and surveillance.
  • A/ Prof Gabby Cehic AM gave an overview of “what’s on the horizon” for NETs.
  • Jessica Mercurio, NET Specialist Nurse then facilitated a Q&A session which enabled the audience to ask questions of the guest speaker panel which provided a fabulous opportunity to interact and learn.

Thank you to all our speakers and to the audience for attending. This session was recorded and available to be viewed here. We look forward to returning in 2 years for the next Forum.

Our next two forums this year will be in Perth and Launceston. Be sure to register your interest if you would like to attend.
