On World NET Awareness Day, November 10, we were so pleased to announce that we had received a one off grant from the Federal Health Department.
This was the result of so much hard work from patient's, their families and key political supporters, Senator and Greens Party leader, Richard Di Natalie, Independent Andrew Wilkie MP, Senator Eric Abetz to name a just a few.
The purpose of the grant is to improve awareness and education about NET Cancers within the medical community and to improve our online resources for both patients and healthcare professionals. Money from the grant will also help in maintaining our NET Nurse Support service.
We are really looking forward to delivering some fantastic resources including webinars and downloadable fact sheets in 2016 and also uniting and improving support services for NET patients around Australia within rural and metro areas.
In this fiscal environment grants are very difficult to achieve which makes this outcome even sweeter for everyone involved. Below is a quote from Health Minister Sussan Ley in relation to the grant.
Thanks again to everyone for their hard work and dedication.
From Federal Minister for Health Sussan Ley:
To assist those people who have Neuroendocrine cancers the Australian Government has contributed $143,000 to the Unicorn Foundation for an online resource to help improve support by continuing to educate patients, their carers and the medical profession about this less common cancer that affects more than 2000 people every year. I wish you every success with World NET Cancer Day.
