Adelaide Patient Forum

  • June 27, 2017
On June 14th, Net Nurse Kate Waklein and CEO Simone Leyden, headed to Adelaide for our NET patient forum. It was fantastic to see such a great turn out, eager to hear from leading SA NET experts.

Adelaide Patient Forum

We are so grateful to our invited guest experts who represented the SA PRRT service and SA NET Multi Disciplinary Team

including:

•      Dr Gabby Cehic

•      Dr Tim Price

•      Dr Michael Kitchener

•      Dr Nattakorn Dhiantravan

•      Dr Daniel Badger

•      Dr Julie Chemmanam

•      Davina Nicholls

Presentations came from Dr Tim Price – I have been diagnosed with a NET, what next? and Dr Gabby Cehic –

What happens when my disease progresses after Somatostatin analogue therapy?, and Why is my case discussed at an MDT?

These presentations were fantastic in helping patients and their carers understand why decisions are made about certain treatments and when they are used along the treatment journey. The audience then had the opportunity to ask more questions of the expert panel in an interactive Q & A sessions. Questions also came in from our live webcast from patients around the country and in particular from regional SA who could not attend in person.

Gill Miller of Cancer Council SA introduced the ENRICH program to our patients that looks at exercise and nutrition in supporting people with cancer. We encourage our patients to get involved in such a great program.

We were also so happy to celebrate 100 patients being treated by the SA, PRRT program. This is such an achievement with many hurdles including lack of funding amongst the years and we congratulate the team for their dedication and persistence in delivering this vital service to SA NET patients.

Special thanks to Gill Miller and Sue from the Cancer Council for helping to organise such a successful event for their continual support of the foundation and NET patients, we could not do it without you!
