November 10 was NET Cancer Day, a day for all neuroendocrine cancer patients, carers, families and healthcare professionals to unite and help raise awareness of NETs across Australia.
In collaboration with the International Neuroendocrine Cancer Alliance (INCA), this year’s NET Cancer Day theme, Know the symptoms. Push for diagnosis called on our NET community to share their NET symptoms and personal diagnosis stories across social media to raise awareness of NETs and encourage earlier diagnosis.
In Australia, we asked for our NET Community to “raise your cups” and host a morning tea (in a clinic, work place, with friends or virtually). We saw so many of our NET community share NET facts tiles that were downloaded from the website – it was heartwarming to see wo much support. NET Cancer Day morning teas will be an annual event so mark it in your diary for next year.
We were delighted to hear radio ads promoting NETs awareness in Canberra during the lead up to NET Cancer day, this was organised with thanks to Lynda Dunstone and her husband Simon. 132 radio commercials ran across 2CA1053 and 2CC1206.
We’d like to thank some of our NET Cancer Day fundraisers for their outstanding contribution to NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia.
- Suncorp and GenesisCare hosted morning teas at their workplace
- Orana Dance Centre from Dubbo NSW, asked everyone to wear black and white or zebra print to raise funds and awareness of NETS.
- Many thanks to Mekailah who ran a cake stall to raise awareness of NETs after she was diagnosed in February with neuroendocrine cancer at 27.
Thank you to Geoff Tomlin for sharing his story with INCA so that Australia had a voice in the INCA global campaign. Geoff’s full story will be uploaded to the NECA website soon, keep a look out on our social media for this one. In the meantime you can read Geoffs story on the INCA website here.
We thank all of those who donated, shared posts, hosted morning teas and fundraisers to support NECA and raise over $7,000 (and counting!) for NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia
If you’d like to donate, you can still do so here.
