Unicorn Foundation Football Match

  • April 28, 2014
One Saturday April 5, the Unicorn Foundation took over Etihad Stadium raising awareness and rattling tins to fund our CONTROL NETs trial.

With the support of the Western Bulldogs and Etihad Stadium the Unicorn Foundation promoted the match on Channel 7 news on Friday April 4, where Daniel Giansiracusa presented our patient Natalia with a Bulldogs jumper and spoke about cancer research. Fantastic effort from Natalia who brought along with her, her 10 day old son Liam as well as her two year old son Noah and husband Scott. Natalia is an inspiration and has given birth to her two beautiful sons since being diagnosed with a bowel NET.

Special thanks to Paul Stephenson and Julie Barton for helping distribute over 50 tins through the stadium to collect change over the next few months. If you are at Etihad for a game over the footy season please dig deep and put your extra coins into a UF tin, located at the various bars and food outlets.

We had a great turnout of Volunteers, Camilla and Louie Jones, Dominique Dalton, Victoria Watson, Amy Levinge, Emma and Chris Garlick and family, Jade Neylan, Amanda Morell, Sophia Stangas and Paul and Nick Stephenson who did a fantastic job rattling tins and handing out Unicorns to the crowds outside the maingates before the game. Thank you to all.

Inside the Stadium the bathroom mirrors displayed decals drawaing attention to the common symptoms associated with NET Cancer. Distributed to over 80 bathrooms around the Stadium we hoped to educate as many people as possible.

CEO Simone Leyden was special guest of Unicorn Foundation Board Member and AFL Commission member, Linda Dessau at the Western Bulldogs President's lunch. Linda spoke at the event about the importance of raising awareness of NETs and less common cancers. It was an inspiring lunch with the focus on Women in Football and thank you to Simon Garlick, CEO of the Western Bulldogs, for being such a generous host and for distributing our brochures on every table.

Special thanks also the team at Etihad Stadium, Michael Green, Julie Barton, Bill Lane and Alisha Sebarto for making the day possible.

It was a great success and we were so happy to see the Doggies get up and win, and the winning goal coming from Daniel Giansiracusa was icing on the cake!
